Yōgyoku-in Temple

A Tokyo Tendai temple formed in 1926, housing large statues and clan graves.
What it is
- A Tendai sect temple in Shinagawa, Tokyo.
- Formed in 1926 by merging two temples.
- Also called Yogyokuin Nyoraiji or Nyoraiji.
- The principal image is Shaka Nyorai.
What to see
- Zuio-den hall enshrines five Gochi Nyorai statues.
- Gochi Nyorai statues are about 3 meters tall.
- Graves of the So clan and Uemura clan.
- Tokyo and Shinagawa designated cultural properties.
When to go
- August 13 for a memorial service with 1000 lanterns.
