Yudonosan Shrine
湯殿山神社 (西川町本道寺)
Yudonosan Shrine is a historic site, once a Buddhist temple, with important cultural artifacts.
What it is
- Originally a Shingon Buddhist temple, Hondoji, founded by Kukai in 809.
- Became Kuchinomiya Yudonosan Shrine in 1874.
- Enshrines Oyamatsumi-no-kami, Onamuchi-no-mikoto, and Sukunahikona-no-mikoto.
- Also enshrines Tsukuyomi-no-mikoto and Iteha-no-kami.
What to see
- A Nio statue from Hondoji is housed in the main hall.
