Yushima Seidō
湯島聖堂
Yushima Seidō is a historic Confucian temple and school, worth visiting for its unique architecture and large Confucius statue.
What it is
- A historic site in Yushima, Bunkyo-ku, Tokyo.
- Built in 1690 by the 5th shogun, Tokugawa Tsunayoshi.
- Originally a Confucian temple, later a shogunate school.
- Designated as a National Historic Site since 1922.

- The current main hall, rebuilt in 1935.
- Main hall is made of reinforced concrete.
- World's largest Confucius statue, donated in 1975.

- Main hall is open on Saturdays, Sundays, and holidays.
