Zendai-ji Temple
禅台寺
Zendai-ji is a historic Rinzai Zen temple, home to a feudal lord's grave and ancient statues.
What it is
- Rinzai Zen temple, Myoshin-ji school.
- Originated from a hermitage by Donan Osho.
- Became family temple of Hiraoka Yorikatsu in 1608.
- Revived by Nan'ei Bonkun in 1689.
What to see
- Grave of Hiraoka Yorikatsu, a historic site.
- Yakushi-do hall enshrines a Muromachi period Yakushi Nyorai.
- Yakushi-do hall also holds Nikko and Gakko Bosatsu statues.
- All enshrined statues are cultural properties.
