Zuiko-ji is a historic Nichiren-shu temple in Kyoto, home to important cultural properties.

What it is

  • A Nichiren-shu temple, also called Gensei-an.
  • Founded in 1655 by Gensei Shonin.
  • Its sango (mountain name) is Fukakusa-zan.
  • Stands on the former site of Gokuraku-ji.

What to see

  • Nanbanjin Makie Koi, an Important Cultural Property.
  • Daihannyakyo Volume 246, an Important Cultural Property.
  • Gensei Shonin's tomb, marked by three bamboo stalks.

When to go

  • Gensei Shonin Iki is held on March 18.
