Chōei-ji Temple
長栄寺
Chōei-ji Temple is a historic Sōtō Zen temple, the second on the Ena 33 Kannon Pilgrimage.
What it is
- A Sōtō Zen temple.
- Main deity is Shō Kannon Bosatsu.
- Originated from Hōfuku-an hermitage in 1600.
- Renamed Chōei-ji in 1661.
What to see
- A kuri (monk's living quarters) built in 1690.
- A kyaku-den (guest hall) built in 1711.
- A bell tower gate in Ryūgū-mon style from 1849.
- The main hall, renovated in 2018.
