Chōsen-ji Temple is a historic Zen temple in Tokyo with unique stone Buddhas and a famous Kannon.

What it is

  • A Sōtō Zen Buddhist temple.
  • Founded between 1185 and 1190.
  • Revived by Zuio in 1559.
  • Also revived by Fuchu.

What to see

  • The Hitohada Kannon.
  • About 200 stone Buddhas.
  • Stone Buddhas include Kannon and Jizo Bodhisattva.
  • The Takimi-do hall.
  • The 'Kagami no Ido' well near the parking lot.
