Fushiki Shrine
伏木神社
Fushiki Shrine is an ancient shrine with unique Komainu and a lively annual festival.
What it is
- Founded in 732 as Shinmei-gu.
- Enshrines Amaterasu Omikami and Toyouke Omikami.
- Also enshrines Emperor Ojin, Empress Jingu, and Sugawara no Michizane.
- Empress Jingu is worshipped as the god of child-rearing.
What to see
- Current main hall completed in 1982.
- Pair of Komainu from the Kamakura period.
When to go
- Annual Fushiki Hikiyama Festival, also called "Kenka Yama".
