Gichū-ji Temple
義仲寺
Gichū-ji Temple is a historic Tendai temple in Ōtsu, notable for the graves of Bashō and Minamoto no Yoshinaka.
What it is
- Tendai-affiliated temple in Ōtsu, Shiga Prefecture.
- Main deity is Shō Kannon Bosatsu.
- Re-established around 1553 by Rokkaku Yoshikata.
- Designated a National Historic Site in 1967.
