Gichū-ji Temple is a historic Tendai temple in Ōtsu, notable for the graves of Bashō and Minamoto no Yoshinaka.

What it is

  • Tendai-affiliated temple in Ōtsu, Shiga Prefecture.
  • Main deity is Shō Kannon Bosatsu.
  • Re-established around 1553 by Rokkaku Yoshikata.
  • Designated a National Historic Site in 1967.
