Hondo-ji is a historic Nichiren temple known for its stunning seasonal flowers and cultural treasures.

What it is

  • A head temple of the Nichiren sect.
  • Founded as Haseyama Hondo-ji.
  • One of the "Sancho Sanbon" temples.
  • Affectionately called "Ajisai-dera" (Hydrangea Temple).

  • One tatchu (sub-temple), Butsuji-in.
  • 1,000 maple trees.
  • 5,000 irises and 10,000 hydrangeas.
