Hongan-ji Temple is a historic Jodo-shu Buddhist temple with the oldest building in the Tango region.

What it is

  • Founded in 730 by Gyoki.
  • Converted to Jodo-shu Buddhism in 1192 by Honen.
  • The 20th sacred site of Honen Shonin's residence.

  • Stone gate built in the mid-17th century.
