Hōyō-ji Temple
法養寺
Hōyō-ji Temple is a historic Jōdo-shū Buddhist temple with a unique connection to children's education.
What it is
- A Jōdo-shū Buddhist temple.
- Founded in 1521 by Teiyo Hōyō Daikashō.
- Operated a terakoya, known as 'Kodomo-dera'.
- Old documents were lost in a 1906 fire.
What to see
- The current main hall, built in 1972.
- A Fudeko-zuka (students' mound) on the grounds.
- Fudeko-zuka commemorates Kaio Shōnin.
- Kaio Shōnin Fudeko-zuka is a registered cultural property.
