Iwama-dera Temple is a mountain temple with ancient statues, part of a significant pilgrimage.
What it is
- Shingon-shu Daigo-ha temple in Otsu City, Shiga Prefecture.
- Founded by Taicho, also known as Iwama-dera.
- Principal image is Senju Kannon Bosatsu.
- 12th temple of the Saigoku Kannon Pilgrimage.
What to see
- Main hall, Senju-do, rebuilt in 1577.
- Fudo-do hall, rebuilt in 1993.
- Wooden Jizo Bosatsu statue from late Heian period.
- Three wooden Fudo Myoo statues from Kamakura period.
- Two child attendant statues from Kamakura period.
