Ancient shrine on Mount Katsuragi's foot, known for its sacred ginkgo and unique deity.
What it is
- Shikinaisha (Myojin Taisha) shrine in Gose City, Nara Prefecture.
- Dedicated to Katsuragi no Hitokotonushi no Okami.
- Also enshrines Wakakeru no Mikoto (Emperor Yuryaku).
- Commonly called "Ichigon-san" or "Ichikonji-san."
What to see
- Main hall rebuilt in 1876, nagare-zukuri style.
- Sacred old ginkgo tree in front of the worship hall.
- Okumiya (inner shrine) with an iwakura (sacred rock formation).
When to go
- Autumn Grand Festival (Goshinka-sai) on September 15.
