Keigen-ji Temple
慶元寺
Keigen-ji Temple is a historic Jodo-shu temple with the oldest temple building in Setagaya Ward.
What it is
- A Jodo-shu Buddhist temple.
- Founded in 1186 by Edo Taro Shigenaga.
- Originally a Tendai-shu temple, converted in 1540.
- Granted a Shuinjo by Tokugawa Iemitsu in 1636.
What to see
- The current main hall, built in 1716.
- Main hall is Setagaya Ward's oldest temple building.
- Graves of successive generations of the Edo clan.
