Midori Katori Shrine
緑香取神社
Midori Katori Shrine is a modern concrete shrine with a long history, a short walk from Abiko Station.
What it is
- Guardian shrine of Abiko-shuku, founded in the Kyoho era (1716-1736).
- Destroyed by fire in 1827 and rebuilt in the Tenpo era (1830-1844).
- Ranked as a 'village shrine' in the early Meiji period.
- Thirteen surrounding shrines were merged in 1907.
What to see
- Current shrine building was constructed in 1981.
- Building is made of reinforced concrete.
