Midori Katori Shrine is a modern concrete shrine with a long history, a short walk from Abiko Station.

What it is

  • Guardian shrine of Abiko-shuku, founded in the Kyoho era (1716-1736).
  • Destroyed by fire in 1827 and rebuilt in the Tenpo era (1830-1844).
  • Ranked as a 'village shrine' in the early Meiji period.
  • Thirteen surrounding shrines were merged in 1907.

What to see

  • Current shrine building was constructed in 1981.
  • Building is made of reinforced concrete.
