Mount Kōbō

What it is

• A 235-meter mountain located within the Tanzawa-Oyama Prefectural Natural Park.
• A site where Kobo Daishi is said to have practiced asceticism.
• A protected area including the peaks of Gongen Mountain and Sengen Mountain.
• One of the designated 50 Scenic Spots in Kanagawa Prefecture.

What to see

• The Shakado Hall and a traditional bell tower located at the summit.
• The Chichi-no-ido well and a television relay station on Gongen Mountain.
• Views from the mountain which attracted over 700,000 visitors in 2021.

When to go

• August 14th for the Uryuno Hyakuhattai torch festival.
• During the Tobacco Festival to see fireworks launched from the mountain area.

Getting there

• A 50-minute walk from Hadano Station leads to the summit.
