Mukoyama Shrine

What it is

• Auxiliary shrine of Hirota Shrine, also called Shirayama-no-miya.
• Dedicated to the deity Kikuri-hime-no-mikoto.
• Site was sacred for rain prayers before shrine construction.

What to see

• Large stone shrine called Ishi-no-Hoden.
• Ishi-no-Hoden built in 1613.
• Second oldest stone shrine with engraved year in the prefecture.
• Located on a peak 840 meters above sea level.

When to go

• Kikurihime Festival on September 9th.
• Heizan Festival in late November.
