Muramatsusan kokūzō-dō Temple
村松山虚空蔵堂
One of Japan's three major Kokuzo temples, this historic Shingon Buddhist site features a reconstructed pagoda and a century-old main hall.
What it is
- One of the three major Kokuzo temples in Japan, dedicated to Kokuzo Bosatsu.
- A temple of the Buzan school of Shingon Buddhism, officially named Nichiko-ji.
- Founded according to legend by the priest Kukai in the year 807.
- Historically supported by the Satake clan and the shogun Tokugawa Ieyasu.
What to see
- The main hall which was rebuilt in 1914 after a fire.
- A three-story pagoda reconstructed on the grounds in 1998.

- Accessible by taking a bus from the JR Tokai Station.
