Saiin Kasuga Shrine: a historic guardian shrine with unique stones, a short walk from Saiin Station.
What it is
- Founded in 833 as a guardian shrine.
- Protected Emperor Junna's detached palace.
- Emperor Junna's daughter recovered from smallpox here.
What to see
- Four main halls stand on the grounds.
- A Kagura-den (dance hall) is present.
- A Mikoshi-gura (portable shrine storage) is here.
- Enshrines a sacred Hoso-ishi stone.
- Features a Nagi-ishi stone.
- A monument for war dead was moved here in 1928.
