What it is

  • A Seizan Jodo sect temple located on the former villa site of the Fujiwara clan
  • Founded in 1529 by Zenkou Shonin with the support of Oda Nobuhide
  • The reported birthplace of Minamoto no Yoritomo, the first shogun of the Kamakura shogunate
  • Reconstructed by Toyotomi Hideyori after a fire destroyed the original structures in 1600
