Shōyō-ji Temple
正養寺
Shōyō-ji Temple is a historic Buddhist temple with a unique principal image and a memorial for war victims.
What it is
- A Buddhist temple of the Buzan sect of Shingon Buddhism.
- Founded by Yuhen Hoin during the Enpō era (1673-1681).
- Relocated in 1913 due to Arakawa Floodway construction.
What to see
- The principal image: an Amitābha Nyorai statue.
- This statue was the inner Buddha of a former principal image.
- A memorial tower for war victims on the temple grounds.
- The tower contains ashes of air raid victims.
