Tōkō-in Temple
東光院
Tokoin is a historic Buddhist temple with a medieval stupa and an ancient shell mound.
What it is
- A Buddhist temple of the Shingon Chisan-ha sect.
- Founded by Shami Seisei, date unknown.
- Restored by Eishun.
- Located on a natural levee of the Kenaga River.
What to see
- A stupa from 1368 by Shami Seisei.
- An urn excavated from beneath the stupa.
- Tokoin Shell Mound, also called Edobukuro Shell Mound.
