Uneme Shrine

What it is

• A subsidiary shrine outside Kasuga Taisha Shrine.
• Built to console the spirit of an Uneme, a court lady.
• Dedicated to Uneme-no-Mikoto or Kotoshironushi-no-Mikoto.
• Founded by Gon-Chunagon Fujiwara Ason Yoshio-kyo.

What to see

• Shrine building faces west, away from Sarusawa Pond.
• Surrounded by mizugaki on the east and north.

• Uneme Matsuri is on August 15th of the lunar calendar.
