Yamagami Hachiman Shrine
山上八幡神社
Visit this ancient shrine to see historic buildings and a cedar tree planted by Toyotomi Hideyoshi.
What it is
- A shrine dedicated to Hachiman Daimyojin.
- Amaterasu Sumera Okami and Amenokoyane-no-mikoto are also enshrined.
- It stands in a corner of the Saki Tatetsuki Kofun group.
What to see
- The current main hall, built in 1830, has cypress bark roofing.
- The worship hall was constructed in 1677.
- A cedar tree planted by Toyotomi Hideyoshi in 1591.
- It is in front of the Saki Ryozan Kofun, an empress's mausoleum.
