Yasaka Shrine is an ancient shrine with a rich history and unique cultural properties.
What it is
- Established in 1176 by Kotaro Nakatsugu and Shigekuni.
- Formerly known as Setaka Gion-gu before the Meiji era.
- Dedicated to Susanoo-no-Mikoto and Emperor Ojin.
- Renamed Yasaka Shrine by the Meiji government.
What to see
- The shrine building, rebuilt in 1621.
- Oningyo and Odai-chochin folk cultural properties.
When to go
- Main festival is held on April 16.
- Oningyo-san festival is held from July 24 to 25.
