What it is

  • A Jōdo Shinshū temple, founded in 1233 by Shinran.
  • Head temple of the Shinshū Izumoji-ha sect.
  • Moved to its current location in 1596.
  • Received imperial decrees from three emperors.

  • Amida-dō and Mie-dō, rebuilt in 1884.
  • Bell tower, sutra repository, and gates built in 1811.
  • Temple crest is the iris菱 of the Kazan'in family.
