Gōshō-ji Temple
毫摂寺
Gōshō-ji Temple is a historic Jōdo Shinshū temple with important architecture and imperial connections.
What it is
- A Jōdo Shinshū temple, founded in 1233 by Shinran.
- Head temple of the Shinshū Izumoji-ha sect.
- Moved to its current location in 1596.
- Received imperial decrees from three emperors.
What to see
- Amida-dō and Mie-dō, rebuilt in 1884.
- Bell tower, sutra repository, and gates built in 1811.
- Temple crest is the iris菱 of the Kazan'in family.
