Kōen-ji Temple
高円寺
Kōen-ji Temple is a historic Sōtō Zen temple with unique statues and a dragon-carved torii gate.
What it is
- A Sōtō Zen Buddhist temple.
- Founded in 1555 by Kenmuro Sōshō.
- Its mountain name is Shukuhōzan.
- Gave its name to the Kōenji area.

- A Kannon Bodhisattva statue, the main deity.

- A stone torii gate with dragon carvings.
- A tea tree planted by Tokugawa Iemitsu.
