Kotohira Shrine: a Tokyo sanctuary with a resilient history, rebuilt after disasters.
What it is
- Founded between 1596 and 1615 by Ikoma Chikamasa.
- Enshrines a divided spirit of Kotohira-gu.
- Destroyed in 1923 earthquake and 1945 air raids.
- Current building constructed in 1963.
When to go
- Worship was traditionally allowed on the 10th of each month.
