Shūmyō-ji Temple is a historic Shingon Buddhist temple in Tokyo, founded in the 14th century.

What it is

  • A temple of the Shingon-shu Chizan-ha sect.
  • Founded by Shūmyō during the Ōchō era (1311-1312).
  • Established after an image of Prince Shōtoku drifted to Haneda.

What to see

  • The current main image, made by Ishikawa Gen'ei.
  • The image was created during the Kaei era (1848-1855).
